There's something special about the highway between Salem and Eugene. Life spreads out, farmland gets larger, the land opens up, the pace changes. It can be twenty minutes between off-ramps, and even then there's just a lonely outpost. Here, beyond the confines of the Willamette Valley, the sky is large and open, the sunset as long and far-reaching as the continuous strip of highway ahead.
I snapped this out the car window last week while coming back from visiting with my mom in Eugene. It's nothing much of a shot, but a momento of the drive. Night falling on one of those outposts, in the middle of open country.
